Champion of Care

IMG 2951

Would you like to say a special thank you to a member of our staff who made your stay exceptional? Did they give you or someone who you love, outstanding care while at South Shore Regional or Fishermen's Memorial Hospital? This is your opportunity to pay special tribute to that staff person while helping the Health Services Foundation purchase much needed equipment for our hospitals. This special person will receive a note informing them that a donation has been made in their name. They will also receive a unique lapel pin to wear highlighting their exceptional level of care. This is a wonderful way to say "thank you" to your Champion of Care who has made a difference in your life.

Sandy Fillmore fell from her roof while hanging Christmas decorations. The 18 ft fall left her with hip, shoulder and knee injuries. When she was first brought to South Shore Regional Hospital by ambulance Shirley Crouse RN was the nurse on call in the emergency department.

In honour of Shirley Crouse

"God bless you Shirley and wear the pin proudly as you are a fantastic nurse and I'll never forget your face or the kindness you showed to me that morning when the ambulance brought me in. We need more wonderful nurses like you that are dedicated and caring. Thank you so much for being there for me and you will always be remembered."

When Rebecca Jordan was not quite 2 years old she developed a rare blood disorder known as ITP. Her mother Bernadette Jordan credits Dr. Giselle Marier's quick action with saving her daughter's life.

In honour of Dr. Giselle Marier

"I am sure that if it wasn't for Dr. Marier's quick diagnosis of Rebecca's condition we wouldn't have her with us today. How do you thank someone for saving your child's life? There is nothing anyone can say that will express the gratitude we have for Dr. Marier and her skill."
- Bernadette Jordan

Jalynn Bennett's daughter, Alexandra, was visiting her in Nova Scotia when she became very ill. After a trip to Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Dr's Taylor and Watson did an incredible triage and transferred Alexandra to South Shore Regional where she was under the care of Dr. McNally in the ER and then Dr. Mada Nestel in the ICU.

In honour of the Medical Staff from Fishermen's and South Shore Regional

"...Alexandra and I think that her care at South Shore Regional and Fishermen's Memorial could not have been better in any other hospital in the country. If she had to get so desperately ill, I am just grateful that it was in the catchment area of South Shore Regional Hospital...care was amazing, despite heavy workloads that staff were facing"
- Jalynn Bennett
