Foundation to Bring Wi-Fi to Lunenburg Hospital

FMH The Health Services Foundation of the South Shore has agreed to fund wireless network improvements at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital.

At the September 27th meeting of the organization’s board, it was unanimously approved that the Health Services Foundation would fund the wireless network improvements at the Lunenburg hospital, totaling $89,988.

“We hope something as simple as having internet access, no matter where you are at inside Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, will enhance the quality of a patient’s stay,” says Arleen Stevens, Executive Director of the Health Services Foundation. “Perhaps you’re a patient who wants to find comfort by accessing photos of their loved ones online, or maybe you’re a looking to pass the time on your tablet while waiting for a family member to receive a procedure. This funding has the potential to touch a lot of people.”

Robert Zwicker, Health Systems Lead for Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, as well as the Director of Health Services for the NSHA’s Western Zone, echoes those thoughts. “As staff we want to ensure the most comfortable experience possible for our patients and their families. This Wi-Fi upgrade is a wonderful addition to help enhance the hospital experience for patients, families and staff and we are pleased the Health Services Foundation is able to make it a reality.”

Currently Wi-Fi is only available in a few spots at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital. It is projected work on this upgrade will start in early 2018.
