Revised HSF logo ConvertedDuring its most recent meeting, the board of the Health Services Foundation breathed life back into five pieces of equipment for South Shore Regional Hospital and Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital.

Arleen 170x170 If you’ve had a test or procedure in any one of the hospitals or health centres operated by Nova Scotia Health Authority, chances are that some of the equipment used in your care was purchased by a healthcare foundation.

In the past five years alone, these 41 hospital foundations, have contributed more than $250-million to support patient care, education and research.

On November 27, provincial health care foundations and the Nova Scotia Health Authority are coming together as a collective to raise awareness about the essential work they do to support and enhance the delivery of health care and to thank the generous volunteers and donors who make that possible.

IMG 2778Attending the AGM of the Heatlh Services Foundation hours before prom may have seemed a bit odd for some, but for Alex Joudrey, whose entire family supports the Foundation, it was just a normal day.

That is until his sister, Big Giver 2016 Recipient Emma Joudrey, stepped up to announce that Alex was indeed the 2017 winner.

At 16, Alex Joudrey is a long-time volunteer of the Health Services Foundation. The New Germany Rural High School student is a familiar face at both the Foundation's Radiothon and Hit It For Health golf tournament.

The Board of the Health Services Foundation learned the Nova Scotia Health Authority gave the project the green light at its meeting on March 22nd. The MIS suites carry an estimated price tag of $1.4-million, the Foundation's largest initiative to date!

A MIS suite is used in a number of laparoscopic procedures, using a thin, long instrument with a lense and camera through tiny incisions in a patient, rather than one large one. This allows for less pain and a quicker recovery for a patient.
