Curl for a Cause to Rock Physiotherapy Department at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital

Heidi Jirotka 21As it heads into its 17th year, Curl for a Cause is showing no signs of slowing down.

The heritage bonspiel has been raising funds for various departments in Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital in Lunenburg since its inception at the turn of the century. Funds raised through this year’s event will go to purchasing new equipment for the hospital’s Physiotherapy Department, including a shockwave therapy machine which will allow Lunenburg County residents the opportunity to receive this treatment within their local public healthcare.

“It can help treat chronic soft tissue injuries that are more resistant to other treatments,” says Matt Keith, Physiotherapist at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital. “This machine also has the benefit of requiring far fewer treatments compared to other modalities which may also take some pressure off of our lengthy waitlist for our services.”

Event Chair Anne Cosgrove has chaired the event’s committee for many of its 17 years. “I’m always astonished by the support and the generosity of our community. After nearly two decades the event continues to raise tens of thousands of dollars for Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital.”

Over the past 16 years, Curl for a Cause has raised over $418,000 for necessary equipment that saves lives, provides advanced diagnosis and treatment, and elevates the quality of life for residents in Lunenburg County.

Curl for a Cause will be held at the Lunenburg Curling Club February 24, 25, & 26, 2017. Donations can be made by calling the Health Services Foundation at (902) 543-8065 or on www.healthservicesfoundation.ca.
